New Mercedes-AMG GLC 63: Coupe variant caught on cam
Whenever a new Mercedes car launches, it’s normally a safe bet that a hardcore AMG version is just around the corner, and the GLC SUV is no different. We’ve had a warm-up with the V6-engined Mercedes-AMG GLC 43, but the full-fat GLC 63 is due for release in 2017, in both regular SUV and coupe bodystyles.

Our spy images show a modified GLC test mule featuring a broader track, chunky front bumper and bigger air intakes. a lot more famous quad exhausts at the rear are also a tell-tale giveaway that this is AMG’s version of the midsize SUV aiming beat BMW’s ‘M’ division and Audi’s RS division rivals to market.

Given that the GLC sits on the same platform as the C-Class saloon and estate, it’s a safe bet that we’ll be seeing the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 from the C63 wedged under the bonnet. That produces 503bhp and a full 700Nm of torque in range-topping S form – far a lot more than the GLC 43’s 362bhp and 520Nm.
As such, this could be a family SUV that can manage 0-62mph in under 4.5 seconds. Four-wheel drive is also likely to be conventional fitment to help reign-in all that fury – as it is in the larger GLE 63. expect the chassis to be given a extensive AMG overhaul, too, making the suspension stiffer and a lot more resistant to roll than the GLC 43.
No details have been released of when we’ll be seeing the GLC 63 without disguise, though an unveil in the first half of 2017 is likely before the car goes on sale at the end of the year.

Alongside the SUV bodied GLC 63, a smoother coupe variant will appear boasting the same engine technology and broader track. The masking at the front of the car suggests it till will get the new, a lot more muscular front apron with larger air intakes.
Prices will start a little higher than the GLC 63 in its regular bodystyle, and it too must arrive on sale in the UK at some point this year.
